Edgeliving: How Far Will We Go?

Those who choose to live in Master/slave relationships often find themselves on the edges of our leather/BDSM communities. Master Jim and slave marsha did–and their conscious desire and need to push their relationship even farther, to and beyond those edges, resulted in a version of Mastery and slavery that many have found difficult to accept, even those in the M/s community. Join us with an open mind and heart and we’ll have a very personal discussion about our 27+ years exploring the far edges of M/s and beyond, including: our view on the concept of “protect the property”; consensual non-consent; engaging in SM when angry; absolute power and absolute obedience; and the responsibility for holding the power of life and death.

Tiny Service: When Size Doesn’t Matter

When you think of “service” in a Master/slave relationship, what comes to mind? A “high leather dinner?” Your home as Downton Abbey, complete with a butler? Your slave as personal valet, available at a moment’s notice? Could be… but maybe not!

We believe service is an integral part of maintaining a M/s dynamic. But not all service tasks are “equal” in impact – service can be “big” but add little value to the overall relationship, or “small” in scope but huge in impact. As your lives become busier and the demands of the outside world increase, consider the concept of “tiny service” – how to find the little acts of service that make big differences. Join Master Jim and slave marsha as they share how and why the concept of “tiny service” became important to them, how to assess the impact of a task on your relationship, and some ideas for finding the “tiny service” that’s right for you.

Correction Is Welcome

Structure, rules and protocols are important in a relationship that exchanges authority.  Correction is equally important.  Mistakes, misunderstandings, errors will naturally occur and are an opportunity to engage in the authority exchange dynamic by giving and receiving correction well.  In this class, we’ll discuss correction from both sides of the dynamic.  We’ll discuss how a correction is given and why it should be given. We’ll also talk about the correction being accepted with openness and grace.  Join Tomo for this exploration of using correction as a positive engagement and how to do this well from both sides of the slash.

18 Years Later… Stories Along the Way

What happens when an authority exchange relationship goes the distance? Join Sir Tomo and his Majordomo, Levi, who have shared 18 years in a devoted D/s dynamic, and have learned a thing or two along the way. Expect practical insights on sustaining and evolving your dynamic, along with stories that may make you laugh, tear up a bit, probably cringe a little (ever wondered why you’ve never seen Levi with a luggage cart?), and hopefully leave feeling inspired and supported on your own journey. Whether you’re currently in a long-term dynamic, are strengthening your existing relationship for the years to come, or are seeking the right partner/s to join you for the long ride, we’ll offer an “open book” look into what we’ve experienced and learned along our path.

Artificial Intelligence, Real Service: A Discussion and Skillshare

Fear not—slaves are not at risk of being replaced by robots (unless, of course, that’s your particular kink). But what if we could incorporate a high-tech droid or two into our service toolkit?

As AI technologies evolve and become more accessible, even those of us who are tech-shy can enhance our service offerings—no coding required. Whether you’re aiming to boost your efficiency, spark your creativity, or amplify your impact, this lighthearted discussion will explore how emerging tech can elevate your service while enriching the invaluable “human touch” in your dynamic. Bring your practical tips, fresh ideas, burning questions, or great stories (both the successes and the spectacular flops!) about how digital technology can complement and enhance our service practices. This interactive discussion and skillshare is perfect for beginners and enthusiasts alike—come curious, and leave inspired!

…And the Gods Laughed

The old Yiddish proverb, “We plan, God laughs,” has never been more true than for International Master 2017 Sir DaddyDaun and International slave 2017 slavegirl j. girl j began chasing Sir DaddyDaun with the plan in mind that she would caregive through the progression of Sir DaddyDaun’s Multiple Sclerosis. That led to a very unpredictable life on the road in a semi truck. All plans for Sir’s eventual end of life were made…and then it was slavegirl j that was struck with a rare cancer, an emergency full hysterectomy and chemo. Join T/them while T/they share how T/they formed T/their foundation and learned how to crisis negotiate. A wrench in your plans does not have to spell the crumbling of your dynamic.

The Yin-Yang and the Tree: Models of Spiritual M/s

More and more people are discovering that power dynamics can be a spiritual discipline and even a spiritual path … but our “spiritual M/s” doesn’t always look the same. This class will discuss different ways to structure a spiritual power dynamic that’s custom-built for the people involved. We’ll cover styles from the couple-focused “yin/yang” model to the outward-focused “tree” model to the disciple’s path of gurubhakti to the plight of the spiritual submissive whose dominant thinks it’s all silliness. We’ll also discuss how to bring the concept of healthy power dynamics to progressive spirituality, not just the other way around.

Behavior Modification Intensive (2 time slots)

Masters want slaves to be the best slaves they can be, and slaves want that too … but how do we get from point A to point B? What are the best methods for changing behavior and attitude – not just facilitating obedience, but helping to achieve joy as well? In this intensive, we’ll talk about our best techniques for modifying a slave’s behavior in the most effective and fulfilling ways for each couple. We’ll talk about effective tools for masters, and help slaves get past their fears around being changed. We’ll also help troubleshoot past problems with obedience and attitude, which is why we keep this class limited to 12 couples.

The Imperfect slave: Elevating Your Dynamic Through Vulnerability

We speak about wanting and needing transparency in order to succeed in our dynamic. As slaves, we feel driven to be self-sacrificing, mind readers, and obedient whilst epitomizing graceful surrender. The idea of making mistakes, being flawed, imperfect in any way is anathema. We don’t wish to show our “ugly parts.” How can we truly have an authority-transfer environment when we don’t entrust all of ourselves to our partner (or show them who we truly are)? How long can we pretend to be “perfect?” How does one serve an “imperfect” and “flawed” Master? How do you serve from a place of disappointment??

Becoming a fully-faceted self-actualized individual requires having integrity. Integrity is defined as “knowing and accepting one’s self.” To the extent we hide who we are, we cripple our own capacity to become wholly immersed in our dynamic. “Acceptance” is a two-way street. And, it begins by having the courage to be seen.

Envy and Jealousy

The dark side of Master slave dynamics can often encompass ugly behaviours stemming from envy, and jealousy. These are generally borne out of deeply rooted insecurities which certain situations can trigger. Their exposure can conjure up devastating guilt, dread, shame and fear of abandonment, loss. Sometimes we are aware, often not, of that which is dark in us; our tendency is to hide it, deny its existence, we rarely seek to face it. However, there is certain blessing in that most of us are wired with a deep compulsion to explore the underbelly of our psyche, and in doing so, bring it into the light to affirm and validate our authentic broken selves. That is the ‘grace’ in the dark side of dynamics.

Drawing on personal and professional experiences, slave Caroline offers some provocative thoughts on the beneficial function of envy and jealousy in our Master slave dynamics.

Q

“Therapy” vs “Therapeutic”

Being in control, self determined, independent, having strong individually focused ego structures, pursuing pleasure through avoidance of pain, are paradigms and concepts promoted by our vanilla society that define good mental emotional health. What we do in our community is antithetical to the beliefs built into western psychological practices and paradigms. In our community, we take control/surrender control, choose not to be self determined, intentionally surrender egos, and deliberately inflict or seek pain sometimes for pleasure.

Increasingly more of us do so with an intuitive understanding that at times what we do is ‘therapeutic’. Some in our community further the belief of this therapeutic factor as a beneficial structure for Master slave dynamics. Is it? If so, when do we know when therapeutic is not therapy? Drawing from her personal and professional experiences, slave caroline seeks to examine the intrinsic value and danger of this “therapeutic” function in our Master slave relationships.

Personal Autonomy and Advocacy in Power Exchange Dynamics

One of the biggest misconceptions in Power Exchange dynamics is that one has ALL the power while the other has NONE. This often leads new folx who don’t know better into dangerous territory where they are easily taken advantage of or abused and traumatized. This has led to several people running away from the lifestyle or swearing off TPE dynamics despite knowing deep down they are service oriented, an s-type, and more. Join this discussion as we talk about what it means to maintain autonomy of your physical person, be able to advocate for yourself despite being in service or collared, how to spot problematic situations that can lead to trauma and abuse as well as how to negotiate and advocate for yourself safely and feel confident who you give your trust and service to is going to honor and respect you in the process.

Leather Reverence

Less instruction and more reverential, Cody invites attendees to exchange stories and practices of how one practices leather reverence. What does it mean to honor not just the person wearing leather, but, more importantly, the leathers themselves? How do we honor the animal spirit who we come to touch, whether through ownership or service on the stand? To approach Leather spiritually, one must revere the life given — oftentimes lost — for us to adorn ourselves with leather.

Power Literacies

In this experimental class, Cody Coyote invites attendees to consider where and how we gain our understanding of power, power dynamics, alternative relationships, mastery, and submission. What does power literacy look like? What can it mean for us individually, in our dynamics, communities, and scene at large?  We will call and touch on various examples of literary and popular media that informed and shaped our journeys in power dynamics, and consider how popular culture shapes and influences mainstream and in-group understanding – especially as media and digital literacies drastically adapt and change with emergent technologies and social change.

Consent Violations in a Power Exchange Dynamic

For those drawn to Power Exchange or Power Imbalanced relationships, the calling to take on or give up control and authority over another can be a powerful calling. Regardless of the Dynamic style, these are relationships – and the consequences and risks extend beyond the physical – into the mental, emotional, and psychological well being of those involved.

As a community we are familiar with consent violations in relation to BDSM play. But for those of us called to the dark edges of Master/slave or Consensual Non-Consent Dynamics (CNC) – given the potential risk and harm to our person(s), what and where are the boundaries of consent? What is a consent breach in a CNC Dynamic? And what are the risks for both sides of the slash?

Drawing on our 29 years, we will explore these questions and help you understand and recognize where your lines exist. We will review the misconceptions, share approaches to minimize the risks, help to understand how to recognize violations, and share practices that can help mitigate potential harm to the people involved and the Dynamic.

Solstice of the Heart: Apologies, Forgiveness, and Self-Forgiveness in M/s Dynamics

Regardless of which side of the slash one is on, addressing hurt and harm within the Dynamic can help maintain, heal, and rebuild trust and confidence with ourselves, our person(s) and the Dynamic.

Drawing on our 29+ years of living in a Dynamic, we will explore how apologies can take place in a Dynamic, the elements of an effective apology, strategies for creating effective communication protocols to support the giving and receiving of an apology, and the function and value of forgiveness, including self-forgiveness, in supporting the Dynamic.

We will also talk about how to effectively work toward common goals within the context of a service dynamic.

Sex Work in Relation to the Community

  • Terminology
  • Sex work and BDSM origins
  • Sex workers’ contributions to our community
  • Stigmatization
    • How our practices affect sex workers
    • What can we learn from sex workers
    • Outreach and allyship

While many individuals seek to separate sex work and BDSM, the history of them are intimately entwined. Rather than allowing the parts of our history that some are uncomfortable with to be erased, we should strive to understand and appreciate how their shared histories have led to where we are today, and how the two are still entwined.  How does sex work contribute to our community? How do the practices of our community impact sex work? Why are both stigmatized, and what can we do about that, both in terms of individual and community work? I look forward to sharing with you my thoughts and experiences on these topics, and hearing your ideas.

Identity, Sexual Assault, and the Questioning Slave (2-slot intensive)

Part 1: Part one of this class is an exploration of identity! Together we will explore beyond what identity is and take a look at how identity is formed, how queer identity is formed, and how our identity within M/s fits within the bigger picture. Then, we will shift gears into a closer examination of slave identity in preparation for part 2 and look at how Owners can use the painful and often traumatic experience of identity disruption to build happier and healthier dynamics.

Part 2: Have you ever noticed a slave/submissive that was once highly active in your local community suddenly vanished, only to find out later that they had experienced sexual assault or a severe consent violation? Why does this happen? The answer to that question is complex. So in part 2, we will begin to tackle this issue by looking at what is known about the link between sexual assault and identity disruption. You will learn to recognize signs that you or someone you love might be experiencing identity disruption and learn ways to reduce the changes of the disruption causing long term negative consequences. Finally, information on how to provide support will be offered for Owners of slaves who have experienced assault and survivors will be given a brief look at ways they can seek support in their healing journey

Show Some Respect

This class is about physical/verbal alternatives to showing respect, with a focus toward working around physical inability to do so (and lesser emphasis around doing so when you’re in a place where kneeling is inappropriate). Some examples would be more obvious ones such as taking a knee or saluting, while more subtle examples would be standing when your D-type enters a room, letting them speak before you when you are both addressed, or changing your language choices around them/to them. It would also include some things that might help with kneeling such as wedge pillows and kneeling benches.

But little white lies have a way of growing into resentment and frustration. How do we foster vulnerability and forgiveness to have the difficult conversations that help us grow in our dynamics? Together we will discuss skills and practices that help encourage honesty at all times through the practice of radical honesty and forgiveness. Pushing Through The Wall

How do we cope when it isn’t going well and yet you are still completely committed to your power exchange.

What do we do when we hit a wall, a blockade or resistance? Owning the fact that blockades and resistance aren’t just submissive issues.

As a submissive who is trying really hard to surrender – and you have a moment or an event where you just don’t want to. How do you get through that wall – what strategies do you employ for yourself?

As a dominant person you are working with someone who has hit a wall and doesn’t want to obey/proceed in the manner you have asked them to. How do you move them through this block – balancing your respect for them, the need to proceed and your own emotional responses to their resistance (both good and bad responses). What strategies do you employ for yourself, for them and for both of you?

This is an open discussion that might be of interest to all people who strive towards successful authority-based relations.

So, You Want to be a Master….?

Choosing to step into an authority-based relationship based on a Master/slavery model is no small choice, and it is most definitely not for everyone.  Learning to honestly assess whether you belong on this path, as a way of living, is something that takes time, commitment, brutal personal assessment and constant striving.

In an open discussion let’s talk about how we assess whether this is your path.  Let’s also touch on how we hone our skills and improve ourselves as Masters on that path to remain true to our goals and our partners.

I encourage those who choose to follow to attend as well. Your insights will be especially useful.  Truly there is no keener reflection of whether something is working than the eyes of a slave who is trying to surrender their will to those who are striving to lead.

This is an open discussion that might be of interest to all people who strive towards successful authority-based relations.

Coping with Unexpected Separation

Events can happen that require us to separate from each other, whether it’s work, family issues, or other circumstances.  In our case, it was a call for me to work overseas for 5½ months.  We will discuss the thoughts leading up to the decision and actions we took to prepare us for our separation.  We’ll address how we handled the time apart and what we did to keep our relationship strong. We will also look at the challenges we faced while being separated and coming back together.

Owning A Little

Join us as we discuss how we pulled ourselves out of the box that we felt we had to fit in. To instead learn to blend these two dynamics together into a beautiful dynamic of 10 years. This conversation is geared to help you explore whether or not you have created your own box. While providing tools to help you expand and explore.

So You Think You Can Dine. High Protocol Dining

“Eating is so intimate. It’s very sensual. When you invite someone to sit at your table and you want to cook for them, you’re inviting a person into your life.” – Maya Angelou. The beauty and elegance of refined service lends itself beautifully to the enchantment of these encounters. High protocol dinners serve to do just this, imbuing the encounter with structure and sophistication. Together we will explore what high protocol dining is, some ways high protocol service can be done, and how both sides of the slash can lend themselves to the enhancement of the experience while endeavoring to bring new life back to this dying art.

Not All Dynamics are the Same – Asexual Dynamics

Sex is not a requirement of being in a dynamic, unfortunately that is often misunderstood as are those who are in sexless dynamics. Asexuality is the lack of sexual attraction to others, or low or absent interest in or desire for sexual activity. Discussing the different circumstances and/or preferences people may have that lead them to be in asexual dynamics and what these dynamics may look like.
